He Shoots and He Scorrrrreees - Oilers and Eskies games

We're so excited to have these amazing seats right near the tunnel and just behind the Oilers bench for their game against the San Jose Sharks. These particular tickets allow you into a section of the Colliseum where there is a flash bar and you can line up and see the beloved stars as they walkout onto the ice... its standing room only. This has been the only event-outing we've been to where there's even a moderate amount of beer being consumed -strange hey! It was the most incredible game - we're hooked! They were 4-1 down and went into the 3rd period (there's 3 x 20 min periods) not looking good. But the hometown hero Ryan Smyth scored 3 goals in 2.01 minutes. This broke Wayne Gretzky's previous record of 3 in 2.18 minutes. It's a natural hat trick, then all of a sudden all these caps start pouring down onto the ice. There's hundred of them - people throwing away their hats inhonour of the feat. So they win in the end 6-4.. awesome game. We've become such huge fans of this game and wondering how we're going to cope when we leave!!

Also braved the cold on the weekend to watch the 2nd last Eskimo's football game. They're playing the Montreal Aloutetes. It's an important game for them because if they loose they'll miss the play offs for the first time in 37 years - big shame job! Now that we're starting to learn the rules óf this version of footy we're quite enjoying it, but there's a bloody lot of stoppages. Anyhow, the Eskies loose and enter the hall of shame. They have one more home game against the Saskatchewan Roughriders but it's pretty much a dead rubber.
