Banff and Yoho NP 7-8 October

It's thanksgiving long weekend and we're shouting ourselves out to a swish restaurant at Lake Louise for a 4 course extravaganza with scrummy turkey and cranberry as the main. But of course we're stuffed and can't finish it.. eyes are bigger than our bellies! An unusual walk on a suspended bridge over the canyon to Johnston Falls and the Ink Pots took up our afternoon. We tried to book into a camp ground and were astounded that it was closed to tents and soft sided vans - only RV's could stay as the bear proof section had been closed down for the winter! We didn't thin the weather was too bad, but apparently everyone packs up and stay's home after September. So we ended up headed north and up in altitude to Mosquito Ck CG where Ian got his wish to camp in the snow! We stayed here 3 nights and it got down to around minus 10 degrees in the mornings... so cold we slept in the car one night and awoke to frost all over the inside of the windows. Another nite the water bottle froze on the INSIDE of the tent! Ouch! On the Sunday we headed up the 6 glaciers viewpoint at Lake Louise. Amazing,,,, large sections of the track were solid ice - pretty slippery, but we get a great view of Victoria Glacier and it's Death Route up to Abbots Pass Hut - we were on the other side of the hut just 2 weekends ago in Lake OHara.
